GTA 6 release news today? Crunch time for big Grand Theft Auto rumour

GTA 6 fans could soon be delivered some major news from Rockstar Games, with crunch time approaching for a big Grand Theft Auto rumour.

GTA 6 - UPDATE ONE: News on Grand Theft Auto 6 didn't appear during today's big PS5 reveal event, but there was another Rockstar Games announcement.

It was revealed that an enhanced version of GTA 5 will be heading to the PS5 in 2021, and that GTA Online will be free to all PlayStation 5 owners.

Those that own GTA 5 on the PS4 will also get $1million in GTA money every month until the PS5 version launches next year.

ORIGINAL: GTA 6 fans may at last find out news on the next Grand Theft Auto game today, if one long-standing rumour is to be believed.

We are currently in the midst of the longest wait ever for a brand new Grand Theft Auto game, with it being over six and a half years since GTA 5 first launched.

According to the rumour mill GTA 6 will be set in Vice City, will only be for next-gen consoles, and will introduce a new location in South America.

But there was one GTA 6 rumour that was the catalyst for all of these eye-catching claims, and this emerged back in December 2018 on Pastebin.

The anonymous post alleged penned by a third-party developer claimed that GTA 6 would be a PS5 launch exclusive, and Sony had paid huge money for the rights.

What was interesting about this rumour, however, is that the poster also got other information about the PlayStation 5 right before Sony officially announced these details.

The Pastebin post correctly said that the PS5 would be backwards compatible, boast ray tracing graphics and be capable of 8K visuals.

It also accurately stated that the PS5 would be out in 2020.

This could lend more authority to the claims made about GTA 6 in the now-deleted post, but it’s always best to take rumours with a massive dollop of salt.

Either way, with the PS5 reveal event taking place later today (Thursday June 11) it's crunch time for this GTA 6 rumour.

If this rumour is true, and Sony had stumped up the cash for timed exclusive rights, then it's possible it would be the marque announcement of the PS5 reveal event.

And ahead of the highly anticipated PS5 event taking place later today a leak could have revealed Rockstar do have an imminent release for the next PlayStation.

Over 100 unannounced PS5 games received product listings on Amazon UK this week, and one of these titles is from Rockstar Games.

This was highlighted on Twitter in a thread by Wario64, with the Rockstar title later being delisted from the online retailer's store.

It remains to be seen whether this unannounced PS5 game from the Grand Theft Auto makers is GTA 6 as the rumour mill had predicted.

Or, alternatively, it has been speculated that Red Dead Redemption 2 or GTA 5 could be getting enhanced re-releases for the next PlayStation.

Even if GTA 6 doesn't get announced today during the PS5 event it does not mean that the rumour is done and dusted.

Sony has said that today's stream won't be the only PS5 event they will be holding ahead of the console's holiday 2020 release date.

So it is possible that this unannounced Rockstar title - whether GTA 6 or otherwise - could appear at another upcoming PS5 event.

The PS5 reveal stream, which will showcase first and third-party games, is scheduled to take place at 9pm BST today.

You can watch it on the official PlayStation YouTube channel, click here to head to the page you need to visit.
